March Interview With Brian
Q&A with Brian: February Recap and March Outlook
Option Army: Let’s dive into February first—what’s your take on everything that happened this month?
Brian Wilson: February is historically one of the worst months for commodity trading. The market tends to be slow, especially with insurance prices being set during this time. It creates a more sedate environment, which makes for a quiet trading month. It was a very uneventful February, with markets staying in a narrow range. In fact, it’s common for traders to feel discouraged in February, but I think the fact that we didn’t do much this month is actually a good thing. It helps set us up for better opportunities in March.
Option Army: It seems like February can be rough emotionally for traders too, like the market just reflects that, right?
Brian Wilson: Exactly. It’s not just about the grains—every market felt the same. Even the stock market wasn’t very active. It’s just a weird time all around. But heading into March, I’m hopeful there will be more movement. With planting intentions coming up, there’s a lot of potential for changes in crop acreage, especially shifting from soybeans to corn. That should generate some volatility, which is what we need.
Option Army: March definitely seems like it’s going to be a pivotal month. For beginners in the bunker and Option Army, what should they focus on as we head into March?
Brian Wilson: I often get asked by beginners about opening accounts and jumping right into trading. But it’s not just about opening an account and following advice blindly. The successful traders are the ones who take the time to learn the system, understand why we do what we do, and stay patient. For new traders, I’d recommend paper trading first, especially after a quiet month like February. Our approach is very interactive, with daily chart breakdowns and real-time insights. Get involved, ask questions on Discord, and immerse yourself in the community. Learning the process is key, and as you gain confidence, you can transition into live trading.
Option Army: I like how interactive the Bunker is compared to other services. It feels like you’re really there guiding everyone. So, any other advice for new or experienced traders in the community?
Brian Wilson: Absolutely. One thing I always stress is that options can seem intimidating at first, but once you understand the basics—calls, puts, and their pricing structure—it becomes much clearer. Taking the foundational courses is a great way to start. If you enjoy what you learn there, you can dive deeper with us. On our morning calls, we show how these strategies work in real-time, so you can apply what you’ve learned. It’s all about building confidence and knowledge.
Option Army: Speaking of exciting things coming up, do you have any announcements or upcoming partnerships to share?
Brian Wilson: We’ve got a few exciting things in the works. I want to bring Mike Fairman back into the fold and have more discussions with him, especially since he’s been busy with his daughter’s hockey career. I also want to collaborate with Rick Clark from Regenerative Farm to discuss upcoming planting issues. And we’re planning a meet-and-greet event in Des Moines sometime this spring, possibly with Ben Rand or Angie Setzer. We’re working on a lot of projects, but we’re taking it one step at a time.
Option Army: Des Moines sounds like a great place to meet up—it's actually the number one spot our community chose for a meetup in the survey!
Brian Wilson: I love Des Moines too! It’s an underrated city, and it’d be awesome to get together with some members there.
Option Army: We also received an email from Gary Mayko about having a tax expert for farmers join us. Any thoughts on that?
Brian Wilson: That’s a great suggestion. Tax advice, especially related to hedging profits and losses, is crucial for farmers. We’ll definitely look into bringing in someone who specializes in that area for a future session.
Option Army: Is there anything else fun happening lately?
Brian Wilson: It’s always fun to meet new people, whether it’s at a meet-up or during my travels. I’m excited to announce that we’re working on a new program to help farmers leverage their LRP (Livestock Risk Protection) policies by converting them into traditional options. This will give farmers more flexibility while still capturing the government discount. It’s one of the projects I’m really passionate about.
Option Army: That sounds exciting! I also know you’re going to be traveling in March—any chance to meet up with the community?
Brian Wilson: I’ll be in Indianapolis from March 11th-13th, meeting with Rick Clark to discuss regenerative farming. If anyone’s around, I’d love to grab lunch or dinner. After that, I’ll be in Orlando, Florida, for the National Swimming Championships. If any farmers are down there and want to meet up, I’ll be there from March 18th-22nd.
Option Army: That’s awesome! I bet a few of our members might be in Florida. So, anything else you’re looking forward to in the next few months?
Brian Wilson: We’re really building something special with the team behind The Option Army. It’s not just me—it’s the whole group, from human resources to analysts. The loyalty and support we have here is incredible. We’re growing steadily, and it’s a fantastic feeling.
Option Army: Well, it definitely feels like an “army” behind you!
Brian Wilson: Haha, unintended, but yes—it is an army. An army of students, traders, and supporters who genuinely care about each other’s success. And that’s what makes our community so unique.
Option Army: I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for sharing all the exciting updates with us today!
Brian Wilson: Always a pleasure. I’m looking forward to seeing how March unfolds, and I’m excited for what’s ahead!
